The Stanley Spencer Gallery is delighted to announce its forthcoming exhibition, Revealing Genius, Conserving Art: Stanley Spencer’s Final Masterpiece, opening on 6 November 2025.

This winter, the Stanley Spencer Gallery presents a rare opportunity to see Stanley Spencer’s monumental unfinished painting Christ Preaching at Cookham Regatta (1952–59) up close. From 6 November 2025 to 29 March 2026, the painting will be displayed at eye level for the first time in over 20 years, alongside a live conservation project taking place in the gallery. Visitors will discover the story behind Spencer’s final masterpiece, see detailed studies and preparatory sketches, and learn about the conservation techniques that protect Britain’s artistic heritage.
