Why not become a custodian? Play an essential role in the day to day running of the gallery – welcoming visitors, explaining the theme of current exhibitions and answering questions about Stanley and his works.

We rely entirely on our visitors, our supporters and crucially our volunteers.

Become a Friend

Joining the Friends of The Stanley Spencer Gallery is a simple way of supporting our work. For very little more than the cost of a single entry ticket you receive free unlimited entry to the Gallery, quarterly newsletters, talks, outings, plus an annual meeting with guest speaker.

Joining the Friends is a great way to learn more about Stanley Spencer’s life and work, and to meet like-minded people. Friends benefit from free admission to all the Gallery’s exhibitions and from invitations to special events, including an annual talk and meeting each March. We also arrange a number of popular outings to other art galleries and places of artistic or architectural interest.

It is easy to join and excellent value too. You can download an application form below or ask for one at the Gallery . When joining, please consider making your subscription eligible for Gift Aid by completing the declaration on the form.

Leave a legacy

Thank you to all who have already supported the Gallery.

We thank all the owners who lend pictures to us, both for particular exhibitions and as long term loans so they become part of the Collection. Our long term lenders’ works are a vital part of the collection, and their presence is evident in all our exhibitions. More of these are gradually being signed over in estate planning with the intention that they are eventually bequeathed to the Gallery. The Acceptance in Lieu and Private Treaty schemes administered by Arts Council England have been critical vehicles for facilitating such long-term planning.

We are also grateful to the funding bodies and charitable trusts that have supported so many of our acquisitions and other funding needs over the years. These include: The Heritage Lottery Fund; the National Heritage Memorial Fund; The Art Fund; The Arts Council England/V&A Purchase Grant Fund; The Band Trust; the Monument Trust; The Foyle Foundation; The Bayliss Trust; The Stevenson Trust; The Prince Philip Trust; The Arts Society Chiltern; The Association of Independent Museums; South East Museum Development; and The Friends of the Stanley Spencer Gallery.

Works generously loaned for specific exhibitions by other Museums and Galleries supplement works in our collection. This support, facilitated by the Government Indemnity Scheme administered by Arts Council England, is invaluable in enabling us to produce exhibitions to the highest standards.
