Me and Hilda, Pilgrim’s Lane (1943)

Drawing, pencil on paper , 579mm x 449mm
Stanley and Hilda at Pilgrim's Lane in Hampstead

Pilgrim’s Lane was near Hilda’s family home in Hampstead, where Spencer courted her. Other than Stanley, Hilda is the person seen most frequently in the drawings, which were made after their divorce in 1937. This was intended for an ‘Apotheosis of Hilda’ series in the ‘Church House’.
