Daphne and Dress Measured from Hip to Ankle (1943-44)
Drawing, pencil on paper , 579mm x 449mm

Volume 2 of the Astor Collection of Drawings
This is one of several scenes featuring the artist and Daphne Charlton at the White Hart Inn, Leonard Stanley. A similar drawing shows Daphne with a paper dress pattern, where ‘a pattern is being tried against herself & I measure the length needed.’ The third figure (on the left) appears in a number of drawings, usually to represent the Holy Ghost commending the scene.
