Portrait of Stanley Outside Cliveden View c. 1952

Drawing, Pen and ink on paper, 614mm x 664mm
Painting of Stanley outside his home in Cliveden View, Cookham painted by Richard Kennedy.

This painting by Richard Kennedy, an artist who lived in Maidenhead, shows Spencer outside Cliveden View, the house in Cookham Rise where he lived from 1945 to 1959. Built by his Grandfather, Julius Spencer, it had previously been occupied by Spencer’s sister Annie. The artist used his bedroom as a studio and many villagers recall being taken upstairs and shown ‘Christ Preaching at Cookham Regatta’ as work in progress.
