Who Are Stanley’s Friends ?

We are a group of supporters who share an enjoyment of Spencer’s work and who help to promote, run, and raise funds for the Gallery.  There are plenty of ways to get involved and you can do as much or as little as you like.

Why Become A Friend ?

Joining the Friends is a great way to learn more about Stanley Spencer’s life and work, and to meet like-minded people. Friends benefit from free admission to all the Gallery’s exhibitions and from invitations to special events, including an annual talk and meeting each March.   We also arrange a number of popular outings to other art galleries and places of artistic or architectural interest..

Here are a few of the places that we have visited.

How Do We Keep In Touch ?

The quarterly newsletter keeps Friends up-to-date on what is happening in the Gallery and on upcoming events.

  • our subscriptions help to finance new acquisitions of works by Stanley Spencer, to contribute towards conservation costs and improvements to Gallery facilities.  In the last few years we have helped to fund the acquisition of Stanley’s last self-portrait, conserve the collection of drawings, and buy new seating for the Gallery.
  • Some of our supporters volunteer as custodians who welcome visitors and serve as guides.  The Stanley Spencer Gallery is a Charitable Trust with no endowment and is run entirely by volunteers, so the support of the Friends is vital to its success.
