Stanley Spencer and Cookham – a guided walk

Two opportunities to get to know your very famous local painter, Stanley Spencer, are being organised as part of the Cookham Festival, on Wednesday 8 and Wednesday 15 May. You will have a guided tour of the current exhibition, ‘The Cookham Brotherhood’ which features not only Stanley but also works from his accomplished painter brother Gilbert. There are loans from the Tate and from private collections that show their unified vision, and their rivalry.

There’s then a guided walk which will take you to many of the important Spencer locations, including Stanley’s birthplace, and the setting for some of his most famous works, including the ‘Cookham Resurrection’ and ‘Christ preaching at Cookham Regatta’. The events start at 10.30am at the Stanley Spencer Gallery, and last two hours in total.
