Portrait of Alice Greville

Drawing, 1930s, Pencil on Paper, 522mm x 405mm

Alice ( nee Hickman, 1906-2000) was married to photographer Norman Greville, who had a studio and art supplies shop in Maidenhead, which Spencer is known to have used. In this drawing the artist has captured her youthful beauty and sense of style. During the Second World War, Alice helped run the shop whilst Norman worked in photo reconnaissance with the RAF. Their marriage later ended in divorce.
